What is a YouTube Transcript?
A YouTube transcript is the full text version of everything spoken in a video. It includes timestamps and can be used for studying, content creation, accessibility, and more.
Transcripts save hours of manual note-taking. You can extract key insights, quotes, and summaries from any YouTube video in seconds.

Method 2: YouTube's Built-in Transcript Feature
YouTube has a built-in transcript feature — but it's hidden and only works on videos that have captions enabled.
Open the Video
Go to YouTube and open the video you want the transcript for.
Click Three Dots (···)
Below the video title, click the three-dot menu icon.
Select "Show Transcript"
Click "Show transcript" from the dropdown menu.
Copy the Text
The transcript panel opens on the right — select all and copy.
This only works if the video creator has enabled captions. Many videos don't have this option available.
Method 3: Google Docs Voice Typing
This method is manual but works for any video — even those without captions.
Open Google Docs
Go to docs.google.com and create a new document.
Enable Voice Typing
Go to Tools → Voice Typing and click the microphone icon.
Play the YouTube Video
Play the video — Google Docs will transcribe the audio in real-time.
Accuracy depends on audio quality. Background noise and accents can affect results. This is the slowest of the 3 methods.
